Bernardine Emily Scott

Bernardine Emily Scott, 93, of Jonesborough, Tennessee passed peacefully at her home on Saturday, June 20, 2020 surrounded by her loved ones. Mrs. Scott was a native of Gainesville, Florida. She was raised in Flag Pond, Tennessee and then moved to Johnson City, TN at the age of 13. On June 27, 1956 she married USAF Staff Sgt. Henry Scott Jr. in Spartanburg, SC, and was married for 22 beautiful years until his death on October 29, 1978. Throughout her life she traveled to different parts of the world with her family being the wife of a USAF Staff Sgt. After, her husband Henry Scott Jr., retired from the Air Force in 1971, they moved from Okinawa, Japan to Johnson City, TN. “Suppose one of you wants to build a tower. Won’t you first sit down and estimate the cost to see If you have enough money to complete it? For if you lay the foundation and are not able to finish it, everyone who sees it will ridicule you, saying, ‘This person began to build and wasn’t able to finish.’ Luke 14:28-30 Mrs. Scott was known as a mother of many children. She laid down the foundation and built a village of people that started in her home then spread out to the community and abroad. She cared for the village with unconditional love and was known as Granny Scott to many. Grand Momma loved to cook and bake. She was very involved in all family events, gatherings, and was a faithful Grand Momma to everyone. Mrs. Scott was a "faithful" member of the St. Paul African Methodist Episcopal Zion Church. She loved to tell jokes, was a great storyteller, loved her grandkids and family dearly oh and let us not forget about her Snuff. She will be remembered as a strong woman of faith and will be known as the Queen of the village. She was preceded in death by her parents: Henry & Emma E. Hill. Sisters: Shirley & Lucille Hill. Brothers: William (Bud) Hill Sr. Deceased sons: Anthony Scott, Donald Hill, William Scott. Survivors include five sons and four daughters-in-law: Garfield Hill (Alice) Elizabethton TN, Henry Scott (Fran Gaby) Johnson City TN, Dale Scott Jonesborough TN, Tary N. Scott (Karen) New Haven CT John W. Scott (Ana) Charlotte NC. Four daughters and three sons-in-law: Gale Scott. Jonesborough TN Diana Scott (Terry Stevens), Jonesborough TN Sandra Bly (James Bly), Kingsport TN Emma Hill (Leo Thomas) Elizabethton TN. A host of nieces, nephews, cousins, grandchildren, 5 generations of great grandchildren, friends, and extended family. Interment will be held at 2:00 p.m. Friday June 26, 2020 at the Mountain Home National Cemetery in Johnson City, TN
