Jerome Manuel

Jerome G. Manuel, 63, went home to be with the Lord on July 25th after a short illness with pancreatic cancer. He was a member of West Main St. Christian Church, where he took an active role in the church working with the Loaves and Fishes Program. He was a member of the Board of Servants. We will miss his warm smile, his distinctive laugh, his generosity, his genuine attitude , his “hard work” ethic, his perseverance and most of all his love of God and his trust and faith in God’s will. It is that trust and faith in Jesus that kept him clam through his illness. He went to work at Giant Wholesale and stayed when it changed owners to become Fleming Foods for a total of 27 years when the business closed their doors. He then worked at First Presbyterian Church on Boone Street, in Johnson City, Tennessee every day for 18 years until the day his illness kept him from going. He was a dedicated worker. Jerome was preceded in death most recently by his father, John H. Manuel, Sr. He leaves behind a loving wife of 26 years, Phyllis, a dedicated mother, Mollie Manuel of Greeneville, TN; one daughter, Tina Shell (Frank), a wonderful grand daughter, Ania, all of Johnson City, TN. Mourning his loss are his sister and two brothers: Cassandra Manuel of Greeneville, TN, John H. Manuel, (Morena) and his daughters, Wendy and Kimberly Manuel, all of California; Calvin Manuel and son, Darrell of Johnson City, TN and daughter Yentl of Georgia. Survivors also include a stepson, Marcus Prather and his children, Savyon and Eden Prather, all of Johnson City. He loved being a grandpa. There are aunts, uncles, and a host of cousins and other family members of Georgia, Greeneville, Kingsport and Rogersville who will miss him. Longtime and new friends who will miss his enthusiasm about the Dallas Cowboys. Funeral Services will be held at 3:00pm Saturday July 30, 2016 at the First Presbyterian Church in Johnson City. The family will receive friends from 2:00pm-3:00pm prior to the Services. Burial will follow at Urbana Cemetery in Limestone, TN.
