Mr. Lawrence H. Adams

Lawrence H. Adams, 79, of Johnson City, entered eternal peace to meet his heavenly father on the morning of August 7, 2022, at Johnson City Medical Center. Lawrence, better known as "Pop," was born on July 25, 1943, in Dante, VA, to the late Kathryn Miller- Adams and William Adams, Jr. Pop played professional baseball with the Bluefield Baltimore Orioles Organization. He was a member of the 82nd Airbourne and completed 31 successful night jumps behind enemy lines. He was honorably discharged in 1964. Pop attended ETSU, started a career at Holston Defense, and retired from Eastman Kodak after 30 years. He also worked at Fingerhut and HSN. He continued to work in the community locally until his passing. He mentored the youth as a correctional officer at the juvenile detention center. When Pop made Johnson City his home, he became a member of Friendship Baptist Church in 1970. He was preceded in death by his mother, Kathryn; father, William Adams Jr.; sister, Sharon Foster; and brother, David Adams. Pop is survived by his wife of 58 years, Sharon Foster Adams; four children, Norma Faye (Kenneth) Heatherly, Aundrea Adams, Rodney Adams, and Aimee Adams; honorary son, John Birchette IV; grandchildren, Rashad Adams, Keyshaun Adams, Gavin Williams, and Skylar Lawrence Adams; great-grandson, Jackson Avery Adams; siblings, Ruben Lewis, Thelma Ruth Williams, Donald, William "Bones" (Barbara), Paul Marshall (Carolyn), and Charles (Linda); two sisters-in-law, Jeanie Lee and Joanne Brummitt; and brother-in-law, Wayne Foster; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and grandkids. He also served as a grandfather figure to the Hall family and children, Sharon Hall, Conner Hall, Payton Hall, and Jamel Hall. Pop was a cornerstone and well respected in the community. In his prime, he was a youth baseball and football coach and continued to be a mentor in his senior years with great wisdom and advice to all who would listen. Pop touched so many hearts in his life. He will be missed by many. Funeral services for Mr. Lawrence H. Adams will be conducted Friday, August 12, 2022, at 12:30 pm from Friendship Baptist Church. The family will receive friends from 11:30 am until the hour of service. Interment will follow at Washington County Memory Gardens.
