Sharon A Bachman-Hunter

Sharon Allene Bachman-Hunter was born February 4, 1948, the ninth of ten children to Alexander Bachman and Rosa Lee Mathes Bachman in Johnson City, Tennessee. She went to live with the Lord on October 26, 2017. Sharon was one of the first seven young women who integrated and graduated from the then all white Science Hill High School in the 1960's. After graduating in 1966, she moved to Washington, D.C. She was employed by the Department of Commerce from 1966 to 1969 as a GS-5 clerk typist and also worked for a local restaurant and bar Chez Maurice as a Barmaid at 9th and U Streets, N.W. After leaving Washington, D.C. she moved to Atlantic City, NJ, in May of 1969 to work at Golden Bar on Kentucky Avenue as a Barmaid. She made Atlantic City her home working at local bars, Sonny's Sidewalk Café and the Hickory House Bar. She worked at Bally's Hotel and Casino from 1979 to 1984 as a Bartender. After working for one week at Bally's she got the job of her dreams in July 1979, after graduating from Atlantic Community College, working for County Welfare later called the Department of Family and Community Development, working both jobs for five years. Her titles included Income Maintenance Technician, Training Technician of all new employees for the department, Supervisor of Child Support, Calculations and TANF Unit and SNAP program. Sharon loved her job and was well known throughout Atlantic County and Atlantic City as a person that would always take that extra step to help any person in need. She retired after 38 years of service August 1, 2017. Sharon was preceded in death by her parents, Alexander and Rosa Mathes Bachman; brothers, Charles, Richard, Robert, William, Wayne, Donald and Benjamin Bachman; sister, Sarah Bachman; and her soul mate, Alner (Al) Anderson. Sharon is survived by her loving daughter, Ursula Bachman Atkins and her son-in-law, Jefferie Atkins, Jr. of North Carolina; and the loves of her life, granddaughters, Teliqua Bachman of Atlantic City, NJ Janay and Nylaja Bachman of North Carolina; special grandson, Jeremiah (Phatt-Ratt) of North Carolina; sister, Sylvia Bachman of Johnson City, TN; first cousins, Alfreda Machen and Rosemary Ryan of Johnson City, TN; all her step children who she so loved and brought joy to her life; nieces, nephews, cousins; special friends, to many to name, who always stood by her through good and bad times; and her Welfare family. Funeral services will be 11AM, Thursday, November 2, 2017, All Wars Memorial Building, 1510 Adriatic Avenue, Atlantic City, where friends may call from 9AM. Graveside services will be held at 3:00pm on Sunday November 5,2017 at West Lawn Cemetery in Johnson City.
