Ms. Shelby F. Redd

Shelby Francis Redd, 96, of Johnson City, Tennessee, peacefully passed away on Saturday, July 4, 2026. Shelby was born in Johnson City, Tennessee, on January 30, 1930. She was the daughter of the late Cass and Janie Williams. She was preceded in death by her three brothers, James, Robert, and Lewis Williams, and her three sisters, Mary Forney, Ruby Rollins, and Madeline Carter. On May 27, 1953, Shelby married her loving husband, the late Bishop Aaron H. Redd Sr. Together, they shared more than 55 wonderful years of marriage, building a life rooted in faith, love, and devotion. Their union was blessed with six sons. She leaves behind to cherish her memories Aaron H. Redd Jr., James Michael Redd (Sharon), Terry Douglas Redd (Kristin), and Pastor Mark Anthony Redd (Tasha), as well as the late Wayne and Karl Redd, all of Johnson City, Tennessee. Shelby was richly blessed with a beautiful family that included many cherished grandchildren, several great-grandchildren, and a number of precious great-great-grandchildren. She also leaves behind a host of loving nephews and nieces, including her special niece, Cecelia Williams of Knoxville, Tennessee, whom she loved dearly. Shelby was baptized in the name of Jesus and received the baptism of the Holy Ghost. She faithfully served with her husband as Pastor and First Lady of Grace Temple Church in Johnson City, Tennessee, for 35 years. Shelby was a gifted pianist who joyfully used her musical talents to glorify God. Each Sunday, she dedicated her gifts of singing and playing for multiple choirs, helping lead worship with excellence and devotion. Her favorite songs were “I Know He Lives In Me” and “Thine Shall The Glory Be”. Her music was a blessing to the congregation and a reflection of her deep love for God. She also served faithfully as the church secretary for many years. Shelby loved solving crossword puzzles, shopping, and spending time with her family. But she will be especially remembered for her gentle spirit, loving heart, and powerful, anointed gift at the piano, which stirred the church, lifted burdens, and set the atmosphere for worship each time she played. Shelby had a deep and abiding love for her family, often expressed in the simplest yet most meaningful ways. Whenever she heard “Love you, Mom,” she would warmly reply, “Love you more.” Those tender words will forever echo in the hearts of those she leaves behind. She will be deeply missed, cherished beyond measure, and lovingly remembered until we are reunited with her in heaven. “Favour is deceitful, and beauty is vain: but a woman that feareth the Lord, she shall be praised.” Proverbs 31:30
